Contest looming....
Emma, a British drama teacher came to help the girls during their preparations for the contest. With much patience she supervised and analysed their weekly sessions and gave feedback and tips where necessary.
Because only one teacher was allowed to accompany the participating groups at the contest it was not hard to decide that for Maaslandcollege that would be Emma.
In the meantime, the girls had been able to get permission for an extra hour's preparation at school and were looking forward to the big event....

drama contest preparation
day 1
Our drama group consists of five 3rd year pupils who will be entering the European Platform's first ever TTO Drama Contest, open to all 2nd and 3rd year classes in TTO schools in the Netherlands. The idea is simple - every participating school has been sent the same prop, and a 5 minute scene has to be written around this prop.
The prop is a collapsible suitcase.....
During the first meeting the 5 girls, Robin, Cheyenne, Zoe, Eva and Josephine brainstormed possible scenarios that could be used as a basis for a script involving a suitcase of this sort.
At the end of the meeting, each girl was to make a list of possible script ideas for next lesson.
day 2
We finally decided to let our collapsible suitcase possess magical powers. In much the same vein as the genie with the lamp, our working title became 'Be Careful What You Wish For'.
Because of the pressing time factor, and the fact that we only had one lesson at school per week for preparation, the girls ended up having 'repetition sleepovers' in which details for the costumes, script eetc were worked on.

In the beginning there was......
....drama.
The idea for this blog-exchange between Wellington Girls and Maasland College is to develop cultural awareness, drama skills and english language skills.
Drama is a subject on the curriculum at Wellington Girls, and is a chosen extra-curricular activity at Maasland, so drama's 'place' in each school is different.
The idea to use drama as a tool in the acquistion of a second language is established; this exchange adds an international and cultural perspective to this process.
After an initial introduction phase, the girls will be able to follow each others activities and share outcomes....
